Maker's Name: Daniele Scolari

Place of Birth: Cremona

Date of Birth: 1961

Workshop location: Cremona

Education: Graduated Cremona School, 1961

Mr. Musafia's note: Daniele makes instruments in the classic Cremonese tradition.  The instruments that I have seen from Daniele were finished in the "new" (non-antiqued) style.  His workmanship is clean and his instruments tend to sound very good.  His instruments also represent a very good value.  Daniele works across the street from where I first stayed after I moved to Cremona -- he works together with his brother Giorgio Scolari, who is one of the teachers at the violinmaking school and the president of the Cremonese Consortium of Violinmakers.

Curriculum Vitae: He was born in Cremona on September 29, 1961.
He attended the International Violinmaking School of Cremona, where he was GioBatta Morassi's student; he obtained his degree in 1979.
In 1980, he began working in his own workshop with his brother Giorgio Scolari; thanks to him, he could learn violinmaking improving techniques and also he could personalize his style.
For his instruments he usually uses very good quality woods, taking inspiration, during the construction, by the classical cremonese school, particularly by Guarneri and Stradivari.
His violins, violas and cellos are appreciated and requested not just in Italy, but also in Japan, England and United States, both for the personality of the style, both for the characteristic orange-brown color. In 1984, he has taken part at the Bagnacavallo Competition, getting the gold medal for the best varnish for a violin.
Since 1986, he has been working in his own new workshop and, in the same year, he was second, with a violin, at the Bagnacavallo Young Violinmakers Competition, while, in 1988, he got two third prizes for a violin and a viola at the Tenth Violinmaking Exposition in Bagnacavallo.
Since 1982, he has been taking part at some Triennale of Cremona Competitions, always getting good results.
From 1996 he has been a teacher at the International Violinmaking School of Cremona.
